LOCAL SKATE NEWS
VORTEX Team rider JOSH SHEERIN is back in comp mode. He has had some great results so far in the Y.M.C.A. North Western Skate League, to follow up his close second in the South Eastern Series earlier in the year. With the dedication to compete in all the events this time, im sure Josh can go one step further and take out the title. Good luck Sheerboss!

SPRINGFEST SKATE/ SCOOTER COMP RESULTS !!!

The Annual Wonthaggi YMCA/ Vortex Spring fest Skate Competition was held in perfect conditions on Saturday 6th November at the Wonthaggi Skate Park. With the inclusion of a Junior and Open Scooter division this year’s event was bigger and better than ever. The resurgence of local Skateboarding swelled competitor numbers in the Open skate category to the highest in some time and it was great to see so many original W.S.I. Members come along and help out the Vortex crew who are celebrating 10 Years of running local skate comps.

With the sun shining, a good sized crowd was treated to some amazing action from skaters and scooters from all around the state. Competitors ranged in age from eight years old to a more experienced mid thirties with all ages doing their best to impress the judges.

Highlights from the day had to go to Leongatha Scooter rider Ben Patterson with a Tuck No Handed Back Flip, Frankston skater Matt Taylor with a Nose Blunt in the bowl and Vortex team rider Josh Sheerin pulled out a massive Frontside Indy Air.

Thanks must go to Bass Coast Y.M.C.A., Vortex Surf & Skate and Loe’s Hardware & Hire for running the event and once again providing the local youth with the opportunity to show off their skills.

A Consistent performer in comps, Pas runs a different line to most in the park or on the streets so his real gig is free skating. He loves to mix things up and is always looking for somewhere new to skate, whether it be road trips to new parks or just finding funky stuff in his home town of Wonthaggi, he just loves to find it and shred it.
